Bawnogues
There is a serious shortfall of sporting, recreational, and amenities services in our town. Our clubs and groups are overwhelmed trying to cope with the demand for sporting facilities in our community. I believe Kildare Co Council have a responsibility to deliver these services in full in the Bawnogues. It was the Council who gave permission to the developers of the M4 to dump waste material on the Bawnogue lands. It their responsibility to clean up, level, and re seed the land to return it to its original green field condition. This could then be used to provide sporting facilites for the people of Kilcock.
Estate Management Companies.
Kildare Co Council have insisted on management companies being used in mixed housing developments. Residents are being charged exorbitant fees by these management companies for very little return. The taking in charge of these estates by the Council must be done as soon as possible. It is the responsibility of Kildare Co Council to sort out this problem to the satisfaction of the residents.
Public Transport.
It costs 500% more per kilometre to travel form Kilcock to Maynooth by public transport than it costs to travel from Maynooth to the city centre. This is unfair to bus and rail travellers in our community. We should not tolerate this situation any longer particularly in these difficult economic times.
Parking.
The introduction of Pay parking on the streets of Kilcock is premature and unfair to local traders, residents and shoppers. Hard pressed shoppers will seek better value elsewhere at zero cost parking. The council must provide park & ride facilities at the old Train Station site.
Illegal Dumping of household waste charges.
Our current system of charging for waste collection is not working properly. The Council must increase the number of people using bins by significantly reducing the cost of household waste collection. Fly tipping rubbish in our countryside and in streams causes damage to our environment and is detrimental to our tourism industry.
Tidy Towns.
Part of development levies and discretionary funds should be ring fenced for this important community group. Green projects have been running in our local Primary Schools for the last number of years. Our local Secondary Schools should be involved in tidy towns projects, to enhance local environment appreciation. This will stand in good stead for the students and for the community.
Footpaths, Roads and Cycle lanes.
Our footpaths along busy roads are dangerous and inadequate for pedestrians. We are entitled to the same standard of footpaths, roads and cycle lanes that are being provided in Naas, Leixlip, Celbridge and Maynooth. Kildare Co.Council has collected enough levies from us to make provision for this. There are no footpaths or cycle lanes on the M4 roundabout and on the feeder roads.
Local Employment & Integration. Local employment services are needed in our town now. I believe Kildare Co Council and new local employers have an obligation to assist in the integration of new communities in our town through the provision of educational, sporting, recreational, and amenity services.
New Residential & Levies.
Kildare Co Council have collected many millions in development levies from Kilcock over the last 8 years. They sold our Library site for €1.34 million. They have also collected rates from businesses in Kilcock. In 2007 Kildare Co Council spent over €80 million on palatial offices for themselves. I believe we should not accept any further residential development schemes in our community without first receiving our missing share of investment in our social infrastructure from Kildare Co Council.
